What do I want? What do I need?

DESIGN PRACTICE – BRIEF ONE

COLLABORATIVE – OLIVIA & HAYLEY

T-SHIRT DESIGN

The Brief:

Produce a body of work developing a range of T-shirt designs to be screen-printed using illustration, type or a combination of the two. The designs will be used for a small independent clothing company in Leeds called Oh My Love to be sold as part of their clothing range. The t-shirts will be aimed at clients aged between 16-30. You must take this target age rang into account when developing images. There are no limitations for colour pallet however, all images must only be only two colour.

The designs must relate to one or more of the following themes:

Footwear

Food

Jewelry

Music

Emotion

Designs can work together as a set or series or individual designs.

Considerations:

How will you develop your illustrations and type to communicate the theme?

How will you use colour, type and line appropriately? Will the colour choices compliment or clash in your designs? What material and colour will the t-shirts you screen onto be and how will that affect your colour choices and designs?

Background:

Consider existing t-shirt designers, how they work, how they inspire you and how their work sells. Oh My Love is a new up and coming clothing company, which is only just establishing its self in Leeds. Designs need to be fresh and innovative in order to be successful. Oh My Love is closely linked to Paper Scissor Stone and will also be selling your designs in their store.

Mandatory Requirements:

The resolution should be resolved, screen-printed, contextualized and presented as a finished product. Development work should be clearly recorded and posted to a blog in the appropriate format.

Deliverables:

The resolution should be presented on 1-2 A3 presentation boards and a full body of work demonstrating effective research and development of designs. All development should be presented in A3 plastic sleeves. (Maximum of 2.)
